“Because Of The Times” (Part II)

    Last week we began looking at a subject that most people would rather avoid; “perilous times!” However, we must realize that victory does not come by avoiding the facts, but by facing them head on. You see, all it takes is just one quick look around you to discover how true the Apostle Paul’s words are when he said, II Timothy 3:1, “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come…”

    Because of the times, we as the church, the body of Christ, should be moving forward fulfilling our responsibility, and making a difference in our world. Because of the times, we have a responsibility to:

     #1—Proclaim The Truth

     #2—Provide A Haven

    #3—Prepare The Troops: As the church, we have a responsibility to train and equip the troops for ministry. Paul writes to the church at Ephesus the following words: “And He gave some apostles; and some prophets; and some evangelists; and some pastors and teachers; for the perfecting (equipping) of the saints, for the work of the ministry…” Some folks think their pastor has been hired to do all their work. Wrong! God has given the pastor as a gift to the church to train, equip and perfect the saints to do the work of the ministry. But on the other hand, it is the responsibility of the pastor to teach, train, disciple, instruct, and equip people for ministry. Many great soldiers of the Lord have been wounded and destroyed in the heat of the battle, simply because they had no training in spiritual combat. Because of the times, we must prepare the troops!

     #4—Present The Power: If there was ever a day when we needed the power of God, it is today! The world is hungry for God’s power. For too long the church has been afraid of God’s power; we have been embarrassed by God’s power; we have resisted God’s power. Man’s pride and rebellion have limited God’s power from flowing freely in our churches. Therefore, people have turned from the church to the power of the enemy. “Oh, God, be God once again among your people. Restore miracles, wonders and signs, because of the times!”
