The year 1973 was one I never will forget.  I was in the sixth grade and was having a very difficult time with it.  My grades were the pits, and my attitude was not much better.  I sat about three-quarters of the way back from the front of the room.  I never could understand why the teacher wrote so small on the chalkboard.  As hard as I tried, I just simply could not read it.

One day, during my struggle, I asked a classmate if he could read the chalkboard.  He said, “Sure, I can read it fine.”  I noticed that he was wearing glasses.  I then asked if I could borrow his glasses to take a look at the chalkboard.  When I put the glasses on, I was amazed at the “new world” I had discovered.  Not only could I read the chalkboard, but everything in my sight became focused.  It was through this struggle that my family and I learned that I had to have glasses in order to see correctly.

When you apply this simple little story to real life, we discover that if we lose our focus, life can become extremely difficult.  I want to give you an acrostic that can help you not only regain your focus, but keep your focus once you have it.

F. Fix your eyes on Jesus.  Hebrews 12:1-2 “…Let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, author and finisher of our faith.”

O.  Overlook those who are negative and critical.  Numbers 11:1 “Now when the people complained, it displeased the Lord; for He heard it and His anger was aroused…”

C.  Continue in the path God is leading.  Acts 26:19-22 “Therefore, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the Heavenly Vision…Therefore having obtained help from God, to this day I stand…”

U.  Understand there will be times of testing.  I Peter 4:12 “Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you as though some strange thing happened to you: but rejoice…”

S.  Stick with the dream in your heart.  Philippians 1:6 “Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the Day of Jesus Christ.”

So, if life is blurry and you are having problems that you can’t seem to conquer, maybe you need to adjust your focus!
