“Give Us Wisdom, Lord”
Date: 6/8/2011

When was the last time “wisdom” was the topic of your conversation? Probably not recently. Wisdom is not usually a hot topic, therefore, most people rarely give wisdom a second thought. Very few people think of themselves as being wise, or ever being capable of becoming wise. However, the Bible tells us that, “if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him” (James 1:5). God lets us know that “if you want to be wise, just ask me.” The sad part is that most people never actually desire to be wise. Think about it- very few people long for wisdom the way they long for a new car or a promotion at work. We don’t ask for wisdom the way we ask God for miracles or healing or the salvation of souls. But the truth is that wisdom is the most important topic of the Bible. If we would gain the wisdom of God, we would learn how to become a truly whole, fulfilled, purposeful, and contented man or woman. Wisdom is the most important key to having everything you need and desire in life. Proverbs 3:5-6 challenges us to “Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.” This is God’s challenge to seek His wisdom. There is no substitute for it. We need God’s wisdom greater than ever before! Here are six keys for receiving the wisdom of God. Memorize them and the scripture references that go with them. Apply them in 2011 and you will be amazed at how God’s wisdom will begin to flow through your life! Here they are:
♦ Key #1: Ask God For His Wisdom. (James 1:5; Proverbs 2:6)
♦ Key #2: Read The Word Of God (Revelation 1:3; Romans 10:17)
♦ Key #3: Sit Under The Teaching Of The Word (Nehemiah 8:9; Matthew 5:1- 2;
Acts 2:42)
♦ Key #4: Meditate On The Word Of God (Joshua 1:8; Psalm 119:15-16; Psalm
1:1-3)
♦ Key #5: Seek Out Wise Counsel (Proverbs 11:14; Proverbs 15:22; Proverbs
6:20)
♦ Key #6: Apply What You Learn (Joshua 1:8; Colossians 1:9-10; James 1:22)
Start your summer off with wisdom. Make it a daily practice to read one Proverb a day. Read the Proverb that coincides with the date. If you are faithful to this discipline for an entire year, you will have read the Book of Proverbs 12 times in the span of a year! Make wisdom your priority – your daily prayer request and as God’s Word promises, He will give it to you.
