God has a purpose for your life; a plan that He desires for you to accomplish; a way in which He has chosen for you to walk. It will never be known as the easiest way, but it will always be discovered as the best way!
In II Kings, chapter three, we find an interesting story concerning “going God’s way.” Let’s take a look . . .
During King Ahab’s reign, the Moabites had been required by King Ahab to pay to Israel a rather steep annual tribute. After the death of King Ahab, his son, Jehoram, became Israel’s new king. Following this change in leadership, the Moabites chose to rebel against Israel, and refused to pay the annual tax. So, King Jehoram assembled his army and prepared to march against the Moabites. Realizing his need for assistance, he summoned the help of his allies . . . King Jehosaphat and the army of Judah, as well as the army of Edom. After these agreed to help, the three armies, Israel, Judah and Edom, set out on their mission to destroy the Moabites.
Seven days into their journey a serious problem arose: they ran out of water. No water meant death was sure to come. In verse 10, we find Jehoram’s response: “The Lord hath called these three kings together to deliver them into the hands of Moab . . .” (Not too encouraging, huh?) However, King Jehosaphat, a Godly man, came forth with the right idea: “Is there not here a prophet of the Lord, that we may inquire of the Lord by him?” (vs.11).
Four Facts About Going God’s Way
#1—God’s Way Must Be Sought After: Jehosaphat knew that God would deliver if they would “inquire of Him.” Seeking after God causes you to discover that God is already present. (Read Isaiah 55:6-7 and Jeremiah 29:13.)
#2—God’s Way Is Not The Common Way: God speaks to them in verse 16 with these instructions: “Dig Ditches!” God also promised to send water; however, it would not come in the normal way, but God’s way! (Read Isaiah 55:8 and II Kings 5:1-14.)
#3—God’s Way Requires Individual Investment: God said (vs. 16), “You make this valley full of ditches . . .” Investment in God’s way requires three things: a. Individual Commitment (I will dig!); b. Individual Obedience (Give me a shovel!); c. Individual Patience (My involvement is making a difference!)
#4—God’s Way Pays Huge Dividends: Not only did God promise to fill the valley with water, but because they chose to “Go God’s Way,” He promised to deliver their enemy into their hands . . . and He did! (Read II Kings 3:18-24).
Make your choice today and “go God’s way!”
