“Seeing The Unseen” (Part I)

Sight is a precious thing. Most people have no idea how difficult life would be without it, and for this reason, many just take it for granted. But while we use this gift of “sight” everyday to read books, drive cars, shop for groceries and make a living, many people never tap into the “Power of Sight.”
Helen Keller understood the power of sight. She was asked one day, “Is there anything worse than being blind?” She replied, “Yes, having sight, but no vision.” You see, many people can see with their eyes, but they can’t see with their hearts. They can see the visible, but not the invisible. This is the reason there are so many miserable people in our world today. The sad part is that even churches are filled with people who confess to be Christians and have a relationship with Jesus Christ, yet at the same time, they are so miserable and unhappy with themselves and their circumstances that they can’t get along with others. They have sight, but no vision. They can’t see how things in their lives could ever be any different than they are right now.
The Apostle Paul suffered more than any person in the entire New Testament, with the exception of Jesus. Yet, he said, “If God be for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31). In II Corinthians 4, we find where Paul had experienced some difficulties, but even in the midst of trouble, Paul still had hope. He said (verse 8), “We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.”
What was it that kept him going in the tough times? What was it that kept him from giving up? It was his choice to “see the unseen”; the invisible; the eternal, unchanging things that others choose not to see. He says (verse 18, “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” Begin today to see with your heart. See God at work, making the difference for you.
