“Taking Charge Of Your
Life, Part 4”
Last
week we started the process of taking C.H.A.R.G.E. of your life by Checking
your present location and Humbling yourself. This week we will continue the
process:
A—Aim
For Higher Ground: If you don’t aim for higher ground, it’s a sure fact that
you’ll never hit it. You’ve got to lift your head. You say, “But Pastor, how do
I aim for higher ground when all I have ever done is fail?” The truth is that
failure is a great place to start! The Apostle Paul in Philippians 3:7-14 give
a three-step plan for “Aiming High”:
1.
Have a “Collision”: When you have a collision it causes you to release things
that others refuse to release. Paul says, “Whatever was to my profit I now
consider loss for the sake of Christ...I consider everything a loss compared to
the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, whose sake I have
lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ…” (vs. 7-8)
2.
Get a “Vision”: A vision causes you to see things that others don’t see. Listen
to Paul as he says, “I want to know Christ...not that I have already obtained
all this or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that
for which Christ Jesus took hold of me… forgetting what is behind and straining
toward what is ahead…” (vs. 10-13)
3.
Make a “Decision”: This means that you are going to do things that others won’t
do. Paul testifies that he has made his choice— “I press on toward the goal to
win the prize…” (vs. 14).
R—Reprogram
The Way You Think: You cannot continue to think the same way you’ve always
thought and take charge of your life. You must begin to think differently.
Proverbs 23:7 says, “For as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he…” In order to
reprogram the way you think, you must take time to renew your mind by feeding on
God’s Word (See Romans 12:1-2). You must begin to:
• Think “me”
instead of “somebody else” - (Responsibility)
• Think “others”
instead of “me” - (Christlikeness)
• Think “today”
instead of “tomorrow” - (Discipline)
• Think
“progressive” instead of “safe” - (Excellence)
• Think
“process” instead of “instant” - (Growth/Maturity)
Today is a new day. Don’t settle
for where you are when you can move into God’s plan for your life!
