What Does It Mean To Be Saved? (Part III)

Salvation is truly a “present day reality!” It is an encounter with Almighty God that not only assures us of eternity in heaven, but also of victory today.

As we have looked in Acts 16 for the past two weeks, we found a man searching for salvation. He came to Paul and Silas and said (vs. 30), “… What must I do to be saved?” By looking at this story, we see at least four things that are required to be  saved. Let’s pick up where we left off last week.

#1 - A Resignation of Personal Lordship

#2 - A Confession of the Lordship of Jesus

#3 - A Submission to the Lordship of Jesus: It is one thing to confess that “Jesus is Lord,” but it is another thing to act like it by submitting to Him and obeying Him. The jailor said (vs. 30), “What must I do to be saved?” Paul said (vs. 31), “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ …” This word “believe,” also expresses a personal trust in God that produces obedience and includes submission to Him. In Luke 6:46 Jesus said, “Why call ye me Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?” Henry T. Blackaby said, “Two words in the Christian language cannot go together… ‘No, Lord’!”

#4 - A Possession of the Lord Jesus Christ: Being saved also means that I now belong to Jesus. I am His and He is mine! I Corinthians 6:19-20 says, “Ye are not your own; for ye have been bought with a price: therefore, glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” Becoming a possession of the Lord Jesus Christ also promises us victory in this present world. I John 4:4 tells us that, “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is He that is in you than He that is in the world.” I Peter 2:9-10 says, “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvelous light: which in times past were not a people, but are now the people of God…”

Can you confidently say without hesitation today, “I am saved”; “I am a child of God”; “I am His and He is mine”? If not, you can experience this salvation by simply calling on Jesus. He loves you and He won’t turn you away. Call on Him today!
